But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you. For you bless the righteous, O LORD; you cover him with favor as with a shield. (Psalm 5:11-12, ESV)

What Ails US

“A nation of sheep will surely beget a government of wolves.” -Henry de Jouvenel

The ever increasingly lupine nature of our “feddle gummint” tells me that our political elite and “feddle gummint” bureaucraps definitely think we are a nation of sheep.

Is it so?

Yep, they’re looking pretty lupine these days.

“Cherish, therefore, the spirit of our people, and keep alive their attention. Do not be too severe upon their errors, but reclaim them by enlightening them. If once they become inattentive to the public affairs, you and I, and Congress, and Assemblies, Judges, and Governors, shall all become wolves.”
— Thomas Jefferson, letter to Edward Carrington, 1787

I’d say it’s probably because the people have stopped paying attention – after having been taught to have the attention span of a goldfish by the media.

*heh* Squirrels n nuts.

A big “Yep” on the attention span thing. *sigh* It’s one reason that reading of books has declined… unless the books are presented in short, bite-sized chunks that take about as much time to read as the program chunks between commercials. *sigh* Well, it’s not quite that bad. People will often read longer than “between commercial program chunk time slices” if a book is really entertaining. Of course, folks are reading less well nowadays than in days of yore, so…

Yeah, I’d say that’s the biggest problem. The other (related) problem is that nothing these idiots do, taken by itself, is all that shocking. It mostly gets disturbing only when you look at it in context with everything else. Well, most folks are completely unaware of the “everything else” so even when something is brought under the spotlight the outrage is short-lived.

In short, I think we’re fucked.

What were we taking about again ?

AG, “fucked” is far too friendly a term for the situation we’re in. *heh*
